Is the "root causes" approach part of the new editorial policy too?

Frank McGahon

Please elaborate...

Peter Nolan

"What about the root causes of the [boobles'] anger and frustration?" from one recent discussion.

Frank McGahon

I think that's a little joke

Peter Nolan

I'm not so sure that it was...

Frank McGahon

Peter, you'll find that the "root cause" formulation is well known at Samizdata and David Carr chooses his words carefully, usually with humorous intent. I refer you to a previous post by David on Jenny Tonge: Root Causes version 2.0. You can be sure that if he inadvertently laped into "root causes" type thinking, he would have used a different form of words. In this post he was poking fun at the type of people who trot out the root causes excuse for terrorist violence, yet wouldn't be caught dead extending the same consideration to the far more harmless countryside alliance crowd.

haven't you forgotten that other person of liberty?

Frank McGahon

I don't know an awful lot about David Vance but my impression is that he would consider himself to be a conservative, not a (classic) liberal.

Peter Nolan

I'd be more worried about the people at liberty in NI meself.
