the division is more along the line of mentality. notably secular-driven vs evangelical-driven.
yes, there are other shades. libertarians, militarists, socialists, etc. but this is the fundamental divide: people who invoke God in every conversation not matter how apparently unrelated to religion and people who don't.

Having grown up in the Bible Belt, I've learned that most people who invoke God's name in Democratic Dixie want to tell me how He would better spend my tax dollars and how He could use a few more. For Southern leftists, christian charity is due in full on April 15th and made paybale to the IRS.
So praise the Lord... and pass the collection plate.

Well, make sure to picket any venue where Jesse Jackson or Martin Luther King III is speaking. Oh, and the Dalai Lama or Archbishop Tutu.
